Laurie, adoption counselor
I'd always wanted a dog and always knew that dog would be a rescue. Why buy a dog when there are so many in need? But wasn't able to adopt until a couple years ago. I searched for a long time before I found Buster, an American Bulldog mix in August of 2003, his owners had surrendered him back to the shelter they had adopted him from as a puppy, (he was now 3 years old) because their new baby was allergic. He only had to spend 10 days in the shelter before I brought him home. :)  Fast forward to March 2004, when I started volunteering with Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, where I met Noreen. Shortly there after Noreen asked me to foster a pit bull girl that needed to be taken from a neglectful situation.  I'd always loved the breed so of course I was up for it, but I had to get my mother who I live with to agree. She did! So Lola came to stay with us, it wasn't long before we knew she wasn't going anywhere, she was here to stay, and we were officially "foster failures." I can't imagine what my life would be with out Buster and Lola. They are everything to me. Since meeting Noreen I have gained more pit bull and rescue knowledge, done home-visits, assisted with adopt-a-thons and fostered puppies (all of which were very hard to let go of).
