I moved to the United States in June 2006.
Living in the UK I had never come into contact with an American Pit Bull Terrier, as sadly they are a banned breed there :( But I did own a wonderful Staffordshire Bull Terrier of 10 years. I grew up always surrounded by many many animals, my mother like me was an animal fanatic. My first husband was a shepherd, so we lived on a farm with yet more animals. When I moved to the USA I was extremely lonely and I longed for a dog in my life again, but my husband Mike did not want any animals in his house. That did not last long I convinced him that we needed a dog. So I began to look for Staffy Bulls in all the Rescues finding none, but there seemed to be hundreds of American Pit Bull Terriers. Coming from the UK and of course listening to the media, I was one of those people that knew nothing about the APBT but at the same time was too afraid to ask, being new in the country……Big Mistake!!! So anyway I am VERY ashamed to say that I went ahead and bought my dogs from a breeder, something I will never do again in my entire life, but at the same time, I would not change Cloey and Tyson for anything, they are the Loves of my life!!!
So long story short………..
I began to become inquisitive about the APBT, so I started to research the breed, and realized that a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a Pit Bull Terrier as is a American Pit Bull Terrier as is a Bull Terrier…..Pit Bull being a term not a breed!! Only difference between the APBT and the Staffy is size, the Staffy being somewhat smaller. So that is when I met all the wonderful people at PittieLove Rescue, I enquired about Fostering, and got invited to their xmas party, and right away felt “At Home” I will never look back, I have made some truly wonderful friends, and I help save these precious dogs!!!
My home would not be the same without a Pit Bull!!! There is no other breed for me, what truly amazing dogs!!!
