I bought my first pit bull from a
backyard breeder in 1985. I quickly fell in love with the breed.
I became involved with the local breed club, added two more
pitties to my family and developed an interest in showing. I
have shown my dogs in conformation, obedience and agility. I
have also attended many different training seminars with my
dogs. My interest in training and working with my own dogs led
to an interest in dog training in general. I believe that
training and an understanding of dog behavior is an important
part of dog ownership. I started my own dog training business to
help owners manage their dogs.
In 1994 I was asked if I could help
find homes for some of the pit bulls in our local shelter. I had
never been to the shelter before. I was shocked by the appalling
number of homeless pit bulls I saw there. I became involved in
rescue, joining a local all breed rescue. I rescued and fostered
many dogs of all breeds but my heart always went out to the
pits. I currently live with six pit bulls, five of which are
rescues. My oldest pittie is Promise, who will be 15 in August.
